Camp Ground United Methodist Church |
Camp Ground or Campground?
Is it one word or two? Have you ever wondered which is correct?
In the dictionary campground is written as one word. It is defined as a place
where camp meetings or religious revivals are held. In fact, that is how the
name of our church originated.
On the other hand, a name can be written in any number of ways. On the original
deed the name is written Camp Ground. Many believe that this is the legal name
because it is on the deed.
Old papers that once belonged to Roy Cann show it as one word. Campground road
near the church and Campground Cemetery Road are both spelled as one word.
Articles written in the Hart County Historical Society's newsletter by Hazel
Mears record it as two words.
We will continue to see it written both ways. It does not matter how it is
written as long as you continue to worship God at Camp Ground United Methodist
Church, or is it Campground United Methodist Church?
